Here I go...

...the start of my blogging adventure...

I had always been interested in crafts but it wasn't until last Christmas that I started to sew, so yes... I am a complete beginner to it! 

Siempre me habían gustado las manualidades pero no había cosido nunca hasta la Navidad del año pasado, así que... ¡sí! ¡Soy muy novata en esto!

When we moved to our new flat last year, I started reading decorating magazines and by the time Christmas came around, my mind was full of ideas and crafty projects to make. I wanted to give my home a cozy feel and, since I didn't have the skills, I started reading craft blogs desperately seeking tutorials. I went to the local library to get some sewing books and I got my hands on a book by Norwegian designer Tone Finnanger. It was called "Crafting Christmas gifts" and I fell in absolute love with the Scandinavian style and the sweet designs of  the Tilda world. 

Cuando nos mudamos a nuestro piso nuevo el año pasado, empecé a leer revistas de interiorismo y decoración y sin darme cuenta, llegó la época de Navidad... para entonces mi cabeza ya estaba llena de ideas y proyectos para hacer manualidades.  Quería darle al piso un toque personal y acogedor pero nunca había cosido antes de manera que me acerqué a la biblioteca municipal en busca de libros con tutoriales, manuales, patrones... Así llegó a mis manos el libro "Labores para decorar la casa en Navidad" de la diseñadora noruega Tone Finnanger. En el mismo momento en que empecé a hojearlo, me enamoré del estilo escandinavo de la autora y de los simples pero dulces diseños del mundo Tilda.

I started looking for tutorials and inspiration on the Internet and then got hooked by the sewing and quilting blogs. I discovered a quilt shop near my house owned by the most wonderful girls who make the prettiest little things in the world! I started attending sewing lessons in January 2012 and I haven't stopped sewing since then. I admit that I am really hesitant to start my own blog because I know there are so many wonderful blogs out there. There are really good sewers who have been quilting and sewing for many years but I think that it can be fun to see how I improve my sewing skills and maybe, other beginners will find it helpful too.

Empecé a buscar tutoriales por Internet y descubrí el mundo de los blogs... ¡y me enganché por completo! Navegando por la red, descubrí que había una tienda de patchwork cerca de mi casa donde dos chicas con un estilo y gustos muy parecidos a los míos, habían empezado a dar clases una semana antes en su recién inaugurado taller. Me apunté a clases de patchwork en enero de este mismo año y no he parado de coser desde entonces. Reconozco que me da mucho reparo esto de empezar un blog, teniendo en cuenta la cantidad de páginas que ya existen y en las que personas que han cosido durante muchísimos años escriben y publican cosas preciosas. Sin embargo, me tomo este blog como algo que me acompañará durante mi proceso de aprendizaje y descubrimiento del mundo del patchwork y espero que otras personas que empiezan a coser lo encuentren útil también.

This is the first Tilda doll I ever made. I attended a course at my local quilt shop and I invited my mum to go along with me. It was the very first time we sat in front of a sewing machine and I was really happy to share that mummy/daughter day with her. 

Esta es la primera labor que hice. La hicimos durante un monográfico en el taller y fui junto con mi madre ya que el curso fue una sorpresa que le regalé por su cumpleaños. Fue la primera vez que cosíamos a máquina, y aunque nos costó un buen dolor de espalda por la tensión y los nervios, estoy muy contenta de haber compartido ese día mamá/hija con ella. 

I am really glad to be here at last.

Estoy muy feliz de haber empezado esta aventura.
